TYPE OF EVALUATION
ON
THE
BASIS
OF
PHASE
OF
INSTRUCTION
•PLACEMENT EVALUATION
üThe
key word which is used for placement assessment is the ‘entry behaviour’.
üIt
determines the knowledge and skills the students
possess,
which are necessary at the beginning of instruction in a given subject area.
üEvaluation
of entry behaviour
is done just before teaching starts, a teacher should know the previous knowledge of students.
üThis
helps teacher to organise
teaching-learning activities according to the previous knowledge of learners.
üVarious
entrance exams can
also be conducted for the same purpose.
•FORMATIVE EVALUATION
üIt
is also known as Internal
valuation
üUsed
to
monitor the progress of students during
the period of
instruction
üUsed
to
provide continuous feedback to
both teachers and students regarding learning successes and failures while
instruction is in progress
üProvides
reinforcement
on being successful and identification of specific learning errors
üFeedback
to
teachers provides information for modifying
instruction
and for providing remedial work
üFormative
evaluation
is concerned not only with the appraisal of the achievement but also with its improvement
üExamples: Monthly Tests ,Class Tests, Periodical assessments, Teachers observations
•DIAGNOSTIC
EVALUATION
üWhile the formative evaluation determines
the extent to which students accomplish the learning targets, the diagnostic
evaluation goes a step further and tries
to provide an explanation for the possible causes for problems in learning.
üDiagnostic evaluation is done at any time
in the programme
to pin point anything wrong in the programme.
üThis helps the teacher in correcting the
problems immediately, thereby,
improving the course.
qConcerned with identifying the learning
difficulties or weakness of pupils during
instruction
qTries to locate the specific areas of
weakness of a pupil
qProvide remedial
instruction
to the pupils
•SUMMATIVE
EVALUATION
•As
the name indicates, it is done at the end or
completion of the course.
•It
determines the extent to which the objectives of instruction have been achieved
and is used for assigning course grades.
•It
indicates the degree to which the students have mastered
the course content.
•Summative
evaluation generally includes oral
reports, projects, term papers and teacher-made achievement tests and
it shows how good or how satisfactory the student is in accomplishing the
objectives of instruction.
