Hello Aspirants

Welcome to Online Quantitative Aptitude Section with explanation in shine academy. Here we are creating question sample in Time and Work, which is common for IBPS, SBI, RBI, IPPB, SSC, LIC and other competitive exams . We have included Some questions that are repeatedly asked in bank exams !!

 Time and Work Concepts

 👉   Time and work problems deal with the simultaneous performance involving the efficiency of an individual or a group and the time taken by them to complete a piece of work. Work is the effort applied to produce a deliverable or accomplish a task.


                        Time and Work Formulas

               Total work = No of days * Efficiency.

   

If Total work are same then

No of days µ Efficiency

For Example :-

The ratio of work done by A and B = 3:1

The ratio of time taken by A and B to finish work = 1:3


                                            CHOCOLATE METHOD

       👉To make calculations more intuitive, the work can be assumed as chocolates to be consumed rather than units of work to be done. We take LCM of all the "number of days" mentioned in the question. This is done so that the work will be a multiple of these "number of days" and thus calculating efficiency will be easier.
                                   IMPORTANT QUESTIONS

  If A can do a piece of work in 9 days and B can do the same piece of work in 18 days, in how many days can they complete it working together?

यदि A 9 दिनों में एक काम कर सकता है और B 18 दिनों में एक ही काम कर सकता है, तो वे इसे एक साथ काम करने में कितने दिनों में पूरा कर सकते हैं?

A.5 days
B.6 days
C.7 days
D.8 days

  If A can do a piece of work in 9 days and B can do the same piece of work in 18 days, in how many days can they complete it working together?

A.5 days                                A  ---  9                     2
B.6 days                                B ---- 18                +   1
C.7 days                                                                 3
D.8 days                           18 /3 = 6 DAYS

   If A does a work in 10 days and B does the same work individually in 12 days, in how many days will the work be completed if they work simultaneously?

यदि A 10 दिनों में एक काम करता है और B 12 दिनों में व्यक्तिगत रूप से एक ही काम करता है, तो यदि वे एक साथ काम करते हैं तो कितने दिनों में काम पूरा हो जाएगा?

   If A does a work in 10 days and B does the same work individually in 12 days, in how many days will the work be completed if they work simultaneously?

                                         60/11 DAYS


   A, B and C can complete apiece of work in 12, 24 and 36 days respectively. In how many days will they together complete the same work?

A, B और C क्रमशः 12, 24 और 36 दिनों में काम पूरा कर सकते हैं। वे एक साथ कितने दिनों में एक ही काम पूरा करेंगे?

A.5  6/11 Days
B.6  6/11 Days
C.5 days
D.6 Days

   A, B and C can complete apiece of work in 12, 24 and 36 days respectively. In how many days will they together complete the same work?

A.5  6/11 Days                  A = 12                               6
B.6  6/11 Days                  B = 24                               3
C.5 days                              C = 36                          +  2
D.6 Days                                                                      11                           
                                    72 /11 = 6 6/11  

   A and B together can do a piece of work in 12 days. A alone can do it in 30 days. The time in which B alone can do it is.

A और B मिलकर 12 दिनों में एक काम कर सकते हैं। A अकेला इसे 30 दिनों में कर सकता है। वह समय जिसमें B अकेला ऐसा कर सकता है।

A.10 Days
B.12 Days
C.15 Days
D.20 Days

   A and B together can do a piece of work in 12 days. A alone can do it in 30 days. The time in which B alone can do it is.

A.10 Days                A + B = 12                     5
B.12 Days                   A     = 30                     2
C.15 Days 
D.20 Days                 A + B = 5

                                    2 + B = 5                 60 /3 = 20 DAYS

                                         B = 3


   A alone complete a work in 12 days. A and B together can complete it in 8 days. How long will B alone take to complete this work?

एक अकेले 12 दिनों में एक काम पूरा करता है। A और B एक साथ इसे 8 दिनों में पूरा कर सकते हैं। इस काम को पूरा करने में B को कितना समय लगेगा?

B.18 Days
C.16 Days

   A alone complete a work in 12 days. A and B together can complete it in 8 days. How long will B alone take to complete this work?

A.24 Days                     A = 12        4
B.18 Days                    A+B= 8        6
C.16 Days                   A+B = 6     
D.20 Days                     4 +B = 6    48/2 = 24 DAYS

                                                        B = 2


    A, B and C together can complete a piece of work in 30 min. A and B together complete the same work in 50 min. C alone can complete this work in ?

A, B और C मिलकर 30 मिनट में एक काम पूरा कर सकते हैं। A और B एक साथ 50 मिनट में एक ही काम पूरा करते हैं। C अकेले इस काम को पूरा कर सकता है?

A.60 min
B.75 min
C.80 min
D.150 min

    A, B and C together can complete a piece of work in 30 min. A and B together complete the same work in 50 min. C alone can complete this work in ?

A.60 min                A + B + C = 30                     5
B.75 min                A + B        = 50                     3
C.80 min
D.150 min               A + B + C = 5

                                           3+ C = 5                 150/2 = 75 min

                                                C = 2


   A can do a work in 15 days and B in 20 days. If they together work on it for 4 days, then the fraction of the work that is left, is

A 15 दिनों में एक कार्य और 20 दिनों में B कर सकता है। यदि वे एक साथ 4 दिनों के लिए काम करते हैं, तो जो काम बचा है, उसका कुछ अंश है

A.8/15
B.7/15
C.¼
D.1/10

   A can do a work in 15 days and B in 20 days. If they together work on it for 4 days, then the fraction of the work that is left, is

A.8/15                       A --   15      4
B.7/15                       B --   20      3
C.¼  7
D.1/10             7 X 4 = 28 (work complete in 4 days)

                             Pending work will be = 60-28 = 32

                                      32/60  =  8/15


                                              Pipe and Cistern

The concept of people working with different efficiencies is used to solve problems on Pipes and Cisterns also. 

Capacity of tank = Time taken X Efficiency (to fill a tank)

Efficiency

   A cistern is fitted with three taps, namely P, Q, and R. P and Q can fill a cistern in 10 and 15 minutes respectively whereas R can empty it in 12 minutes. If all the three pipes are kept open, in how much time will the cistern be filled?

एक नलिका तीन नलियों से युक्त होती है, जैसे कि P, Q, और R. P और Q क्रमशः 10 और 15 मिनट में एक कुंड भर सकते हैं जबकि R इसे 12 मिनट में खाली कर सकता है। यदि सभी तीन पाइप खुले रखे जाते हैं, तो कितने समय में कुंड भर जाएगा?

   A cistern is fitted with three taps, namely P, Q, and R. P and Q can fill a cistern in 10 and 15 minutes respectively whereas R can empty it in 12 minutes. If all the three pipes are kept open, in how much time will the cistern be filled?

   A pump can fill a tank with water in 2h. Because of a leak in the tank it was taking 2  1/3 h to fill the tank. The leak can drain all the water off the tank in ?

B.7 h                      A (empty) = 140 min                  -6
C.4  1/3 h                                                                      1
D.14 h                      840 / 1 = 840 min ( 14h)

A water tank is two-fifth full. Pipe A can fill a tank in 10 minutes and pipe B can empty it in 6 minutes. If both the pipes are open, how long will it take to empty or fill the tank completely?

A water tank is two-fifth full. Pipe A can fill a tank in 10 minutes and pipe B can empty it in 6 minutes. If both the pipes are open, how long will it take to empty or fill the tank completely?

(B) 6 min to fill                    A (fill)        =  10                    3

(C) 8 min to empty              B (empty) =  6                    -5

(D) 8 min to fill                                  30 x 2/5 = 12         -2

                                                  12 / 2 = 6 min to empty
